Bear Esssentials
The Houchen Community Center is recruiting volunteers to serve as mentors on the Bear Essentials Program. Bear
Essentials is a mentoring program available to girls who are enrolled at Bowie High School. Our goal is to empower
young women by promoting education, self-esteem, and love for community. Students participate in field trips, power
lunches, and workshops year-round.
The role of a mentor is to attend two lunch meetings per month with girls at Bowie High School to provide guidance
and advice as they navigate their teenage years. The curriculum is administered by trained professionals from
Project Vida. Mentors will attend the lunch meetings from 12-1pm Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursdays and participate in
the activities with the girls. You can help transform the life of a young woman and help the South El Paso community
break the cycle of poverty. For more information, please contact the center.
