Child Development Center

Our program The Houchen Child Development Center provides service for children 0 – 12 years of age from all socioeconomic backgrounds, but with an emphasis on children of low to very low income families.   The program utilizes the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, and the Child Care Services Texas Rising Star Program Standards to develop and provide quality programming.  Breakfast, lunch and one snack are provided on a daily basis. Senior program

Houchen’s Senior Center is open Monday through Friday mornings. Seniors are provided a place to connect with each other, opportunities to participate in trips in the community, and be involved.  Health concerns of each senior citizen are monitored by a staff member. Each person is considered and treated as a beloved member of our family.  Weekly ESL classes are provided in conjunction with the El Paso Community College and a weekly bible study class is offered.

Activity Center

Physical Activity Physical activity is provided for all ages.  Boxing, Karate, Kickboxing, and a weight room are just a few of the activities available to the community. Bear Essentials Bear Essentials is a mentoring program available to girls who are enrolled at Bowie High School. Our goal is to empower young women by promoting education, self-esteem, and love for community. Students participate in field trips, power lunches and workshops year round. Tutoring/Mentoring The center provides a quiet and safe environment for children of all ages to complete homework assignments and to receive assistance. Volunteers are available to tutor and mentor participants. Los Duros/Las Mujeres Houchen is also the home of two youth groups.
